Default 3.8 to 4.2

So, at school, they have a bore machine, capable of boring engine cylinders.....Sad part is, cant use it until im in the engines class which is like a year or so. Anyways, I was thinking about boring the cylinders to 4.2L together. My question is, What all should i get in order for the engine to run properly. Like should i be using f-150 piston heads and connecting rods or what? any help would be nice

It's not a bore from 3.8 to a 4.2, it's a stroke. The crank it what you need to swap in order to get a 4.2L. From there you could bore it out .030" and make it to a 4.3L, any bigger than that I would not recommend due to not enough material left in the cylinder wall. When you swap the cranks the cylinder walls will need to be honed or bored depending if there is any damage to them. With the new cylinder size you will need new pistions matched to fit. You rods will work fine. What kind of motor are you putting together? Stock 4.2, forged 4.2, 4.3?

Not quite sure yet, since it probably wont be a while before I do it. But i was thinking just a stock 4.2L for now.

Get one out of an f150, swap it into your car much easier.
