Default 4.2 or 4.3 question

I have seen a few forums about the 4.2 and 4.3 and I was wondering, simply what it is? excuse the lack of knowledge I just wanted to know for future reference. Is it a swap? or is it just stroking out the 3.8? anything would be great. thanks

The 4.2L is the amount of displacement the engine has. It's gained by making the pistons go up and down further - giving you more power. To do this, we swap in the crank shaft from the V6 F150 (and a few other things to make it all work). The 4.3L is just a 4.2L set up with the cylinder walls bored out a touch. You can swap the parts intot your car, or buy a new/used motor with the stuff already in them. You'd look for used F150 4.2L V6 motors.
Those 4.2L made the same power as the 5.0L V8.

I know the measurment of displacement I just wasn't sure if it was a stroker kit or something because doesn't that increase displacement as well? But thanks for the info. And what is needed to do the 4.2 swap besides the crank? thanks again

im not as knowledgeable as you guys but i love moontangs quote. I saw that post and had a nice laugh as well. I know some about engines just not V6 mustang specific.

yes it is a stroker kit it just depends on how you get it you can buy a kit from supersix motorsports or you can but a stroker motor from them or you can pull a crank and some other parts of a junked vehicle and swap them in yourself for a budget swap

so what do you need besides the crank if I were to get a crank out of an old F150? new pushrods I assume, and do I need new rockers or a cam?

If you have the F150 motor, it's much easier to drop it in rather than swap over stuff.

You need the 4.2L flywheel.
A 3.8L 01-04 oil pan. (The 99-00 are different, and won't work with the longer crank movement)
The Mustang upper intake, TB, air intake.
I used my Mustang exhaust manifolds and heads - but only b/c I already had upgraded them on my motor at the time. They are the same on the 3.8 and the 4.2L.

As for the other motors - I have no clue. I know the truck's 4.2L uses the same block as the Mustang's 3.8L. I've never looked into the others - but if they are the samea s the truck, they SHOULD work.
