Aluminum Drive Shaft Gains?
#25
For those nearing the end of their bolt on bonanza this is a nice topper to the cake.
I have to say that a carbon fiber unit from PST is a better choice, but at 3x the price some cough at it.
The PST carbon fiber driveshaft is ballanced for some stupid speed of like 210mph or something and you dont need a driveshaft loop when racing. If it drops down it just turns to threads.
There was an article a while back where a stock 96-98 GT (97' I think) 5spd gained 12hp more at the tires through the entire power band. Thats a stock 215hp car, not too bad.
Think of the rotating mass that you can remove by a lightweight flywheel, CF driveshaft with aluminum yokes, backcut ring gear and drilled pinion.
Everything comes together to make a huge difference over stock.

I've seen both a CF and Aluminum driveshaft tear apart. The CF makes a much bigger mess, but when the aluminum comes apart, it looks like a giant metal shaving with nothing but sharp edges.
I won;t spend the money on CF until I absolutely have to.

T5 is a 5 speed and t56 is a 6 speed trans, but it will work with auto or manual, and I don't see why everyone is flaming him...It was a good question, and just because he doesn't know as much as you do about cars doesn't mean you can't help him and not flame him..

I want a carbon fiber drive shaft. Even though I don't really have the money for it.. I would go big. I think a drive shaft, like a few experienced guys say, should be one of the finishing 'bolt on' mods to do. Don't worry so much about doing that as a next 'bolt on' mod unless it's your last.
