Mach 1 Chin Spoiler Owners, Painting advice...
The girlfriend had her Mach 1 chin spoiler painted lasted August at a reputable Body Shop and the paint started to chip off and crack within weeks later.
Here is a picture if can see the fading in a part of the chin spoiler:
Now we have a car show on Sunday and I was thinking about using spray canned duplicolor glossy black paint to paint it.
Now my problem is, someone told me I need flexible paint to paint this but I believe the surface wasn't prepped right so that is why it didn't hold up the 1st time, what do you all think?
What have you all done?
Thanks,
- Jonathan

The way the paint is coming off it looks like it wasnt prepped correctly. Is there any evidence that this piece was primed before painting?
Sand all the old paint off, prime and paint. Flexible paint is preferred as this piece will move on its own as well as with the plastic it is attached to.

Alright I will try that, any recommendations on paint and it doesn't even look like it was primed......Duplicolor ? where can I get flexible paint locally? I haven't seen it in autozone or advanced auto.

There is a special primer to use on flexible plastics., and the plastic has to be free of ALL contaminants. Also from the looks of things, she likes to take dips/speed bumps/parking stops straight on.

Thanks I will check on that stuff and actually she hasn't hit anything with it....her car sits so high that she doesn't have a problem bottoming out like my bodystyle mustangs do.
Also, why do you say that? just curious lol I believe it chipped there because when she changes tires they lift the car from under the front so since the paint wasn't flexible it started cracking as well I believe.
Either way I hope to fix it this weekend.......best way to clean contaminants?
Thanks for all the help

I'd jsut try removing all that paint. THat thing isn't supposed to be painted anyway.
On tip I can give you is to use brake cleaner. Spray it on a rag and rub the paint off. It's may take a while but it will work. Just DON'T spray directly on the plastic unless you've tested it first.
BTW, remove the chin spoiler before you try removing the paint.
