Cleaning the MAF? Does it really help?
Hey guys been a while. Anyway, today went over to my folks and diaged my dad's 91 3.8 Tbird. Well come to find out the MAF must be sending the wrong signal to the ECU and then it started making a loud resonating noise from the air filter housing.
Shut the car off, removed rubber boot from intake, started up noise gone, and of course it runs rough.
Now this car is old as hell, so my dad doesn't want to throw any more money at it, at the moment (just did the WP last weekend).
Anyway, would cleaning the MAF with some carb clean even be worth my time? Or is it one of those things thats when its fried its fried?
Since MAF's don't fail too often, this is one area where I actually have very limited experience.
Thanks fellas.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'll give it a go when I'm over there again. Can't hurt anyway.
I should make a little video of it. It's the craziest thing. With the boot removed it runs normal. Slip the boot over the end of the throttle body and it makes this crazy howling noise.
