Default Problem with the speedometer..?

I have a 2000 v6 3.8l and the person i bought it off of customized the dash with a white face plate. i realized that the speed is off now, it appears to be going 5-10 mph faster. the faster i go, the closer to accurate it gets. the slower i go, it's further away from being right. does anyone know why this is or how to fix it? i called a couple of garages and none of them really knew how to help.....

thanks!

sounds like he let some of the tension off of the needle spring....turn it around clockwise one turn at a time, set it in there, hook it up, see if its right, keep doing that until its right

you can buy a gps that will tell you how fast you are going.... have the same problem with my 2000 except the instruments stop working after 4-5 miles... seem to always work on startup.

That's a patch not a fix. I wonder if the gauge face is interfering withe the needle, like anything rubbing.

Do you have a bigger/smaller rim or tire size, or different gears. That could affect the speedometer reading.
