beating the tuners on a budget
Hi just signed up on the site, gotta say this is a great site and you guys seem to have a ton of information to help me out. Anyways i have a 99 3.8l and a 5000 budget to upgrade it. I was just wondering what would be the best way to go so i can finally beat these tuners, and possibly the gt's around here. I would really appreciate any advice.
(i would really love goin forced induction if it could work into the budget )

You can definitely do f/i on a $5,000 budget. You can procharge it for under $5,000 when all said and done if I'm not mistaken. You can run a single turbo kit for under $5,000. The M112 kit costs under $3,000 but you need a boost gauge, new hood/paint, and dyno tune as I would do will all these forms of f/i. You can push 300+hp/tq out of a procharger and turbo kit on stock internals if I'm not mistaken and I'm pretty sure the M112 pushes around 300hp and 300+tq on a safe boost level and tune. If you have that much money to spend don't bother with bolt on's they'll eat it up fast. Another option is a custom setup n/a kit from supersixmotorsports, which should leave you some money for suspension/brakes.

Not sure which tuners you're referring to (always hated that term), but a supercharged 3.8L will still ruin any Civic owners day. If you're looking to attack the bigger tuners, like a Supra or Skyline, you're going to need more than just the boost (IE heads, cams). Supercharging is the way to go, nitrous only works when the button is pushed and eventually needs to be refilled.
With that said- 5k is plenty to get started.
Approx. prices
-Supercharger kit
-Intake (short ram style or cold air)
-Headers
-High Flow mufflers
-steeper gears (3.73 or higher)
-Wider tires
-Springs
-Dampers
-dyno time and custom tuning

if i had had 5k and was putting it into my car from fresh id do it like this procharger good clutch gear and locker and a shifter if you want you will see a world of difference with just those few things they may be a tad more than 5k but you would be near the 300 mark with a gear and a hook i would say high 8's low 9's in the eighth if you can drive half way

alright guys this all seems very helpful, really got my hopes up now knowing that i can go f.i on my budget, i was checkin out the m112 but i dont think i will be able to fit it with my hood (cervinis ram air type 2 hood) and i really dont wanna get rid of it, its already painted to match the custom paint on the car, so does anyone know of any other affordable superchargers?
i was looking at the intercooled p-1sc-1 tuner kit from rpm outlet
