so to save time instead of starting another thread... been looking around and im kicking around the idea of the 4.2 and from my understanding the best route to go and parts i will need is:

99-00 4.2l, 3.8 oil pan, 3.8 headers, and windstar upper and lower intake and im ready to drop in and go? did i read right somewhere that water pump needs changed or is that if somebody were to build a 4.2? will a different cam do anything for me? is it worth taking the heads off and sending them to a shop to be worked over or should i just leave it together and drop it in? there are several 4.2s in my area and milage range should i look for 40-60k's or will i be looking for a long time to try and find a reasonable price? eventually id like to get where lilroush's stang is. that car pretty much was inspiration to get my stang there. i was in process of building up my 82 t-top but my 01 was my first car and after a few bumps in the road with the 82 i decided to curb that project and now going to sell the 82 and do "something" with the 01.

and if somebody could link me to an AT to 5spd swap so i can do some research, that would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for any help!

You need the 01-04 3.8L oil pan (yeah, they are different, yeah it was dumb on Ford's part). Also, you can use the Mustang or the F150 lower intake... whatever you happen to have. No need to get a Windstar lower. The Windstar upper mounts to either of them.

A cam will scoop up more hp for you. Talk to Tom at Super Six Motorsports about what you are doing. He'll explain a few options to suite your motor.

Bump, I'm looking into doing the same thing as 82T-Top, does anyone have a cammed 4.2 motor? How much of a difference does the cam make?

The Windstar upper takes a bit of work to get it all together.

As for the cammed 4.2L, depends on the cam - but yes, it will help.
