Default Questions on gears and switching to 8.8

Hey what's up guys? I am planning for the spring and want to put some FRPP 3.73 gears in my ride. Stangmods has a whole package for $500. I would have gone AM but they don't carry them for the V6.

http://www.stangmods.com/V6-Mustang-...ge-p/00330.htm

My questions are...

(1) Why the hell are the 3.73 FRPP gears so expensive for a V6?!?!
(2) What are people's experience with orders from Stangmods?
(3) MOST IMPORTANTLY: if I was planning on going h/c/i in the future, is it worth going 8.8 now?

Thanks guys.

to answer your questions....

1) who knows
2) Ive had good experiences with them. planning on ordering about a grand worth of stuff next year from them
3) Ive heard both sides to this. Id say just go with the route that will cost you the least amount of money. you will be able to put in gears and a lsd for about what you will be able to find an 8.8 for... unless you search really hard

Thanks for the reply, I thought I was going to strike out on feedback. I'm definitely leaning towards just keeping the 7.5.

I'm personally planning on just building the 7.5 when I get around to that stage. Easier and more cost effective. If I were to buy an 8.8 I'd have to tear it apart and replace all gaskets, brearings, shims, and fluid anyway for peace of mind. So the way I look at it, I might as well just open mine up and throw in an Auburn

Definitely some good points. I think I'll stay with the 7.5 this spring. Thanks for the feedback Woah.

i have no choice but to go 8.8 because the rear suspension I have isnt compatible with the 7.5, but yeah im going to replace everything eventually so yeah it makes sense because you are just going to do that to an 8.8 anyways.

AM carries everything for 7.5 I've ordered through them before. Differential is just north of 200 and the R&P is around 160 to 180 last i checked may be lower. Your 7.5 and 8.8 I believe the same on axles as far as DIA and spline count which is 28 spline. If your going to AM remember they have free shipping and 5 dollars off 100 and 10 off 200 or more. You have to check out their coupons.

As far as the 8.8 if you have a v6 there are slight mods that get it to fit right depending on the year of 8.8 you get. the 94-98 is going to be shorter over all 1/4 inch on each side and the fox body will about aprox .5 inch short on each side. That is if your mustang is 99-04. And yes its worth upgrading to an 8.8 im building one right now for my car with posi trac,3.73 for my 02 and I have a 98 rear end.

I am curious why going to the 8.8 is considered an upgrade... You can get a locking diff for the 7.5, and the same brand/model gears... the factory axles are the same diameter, same 28 spline count, same length for the model year... Is it an upgrade based solely on fluid capacity? You can get a cover that allows more fluid... Just wondering what makes this an upgrade rather than just a different design...

Also, on the 8.8, is it more like a 9", with a removable 3rd member, or like the 7.5 that needs to be built into the housing?

8.8 is stronger and can handle more stress, even though some guys still drag race with built 7.5s and its also bragging rights. Personally I am doing it for the strength of the 8.8 because I have been through 2 7.5's and yes Ive taken in the consideration of the quality of build. The 8.8 is built in just like the 7.5.
