100K Tune up done. CAI. SCT X3 with 91/94. What next? Exhaust?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone!

So I just finished my 100K tune up on my 99. Oil, filter, cold air intake, plugs, wires, ignition coil pack, fuel filter, differential fluid. The only bolt on is a CAI. I put it on last summer. It is a 3.8. Manual with 3:27 gears.

Im ordering a SCT Tuner from AM this weekend. Thinking about getting the custom ordered tune as opposed to just the canned tunes since its the same price. Planning to run on 91 Octane. Or ossibly 94. There is no 93 around where I live. Any big difference in gains or just better gas mileage?

I guess this brings me to my real question! What next? The exhaust system is stock. Was thinking of putting in magnaflow dual catbacks in. They make one specifically for the 99-04 3.8's. I got a grand to spend. Would these free up some flow and some HP? Not really looking for sound. More concerned with gains at this point. Not really interested in gears. I dont think there is much difference between 327 and 373. The id tag on the rear is 32775 9E04. Suggestions?

I was thinking of underdrive pully's. But I hear the gains are not that great. Plus I have the mach 460 system, not sure if would be underpowered. PS. My AC compressor is fubar. Smaller belt size and bypass free anything up?

Thanks for reading and time! I guess I have more than one question!

Jay.

These are the magnaflows.

Please don't spend $500 on a stupid y-pipe back exhaust. If you seriously have 1k to spend do one of two things

Full exhaust: Mac ceramic longtube headers, mac h pipe, high flow cats on the hpipe, dual exhaust coming off the h, magnaflow and flowmaster are popular options

Built rear/gears: Detriot truetrac LSD and gears. Auto=4.10's 5 speed=3.73's.

If you need more info on prices or whatever search these topics, the info is there.

Done.

Yea plz dont get the waste of money y pipe catback. you could get two magnaflow's from ebay (make sure they are offset outlet/inlet go with either 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" piping) take them to an exhaust shop and have them fab you a true dual system. that can be done for ~500 depending on your area. check on getting a tuner from vmptuning. 3.27s are better than 3.73s when it comes to gas mileage. but whats 1-2 mpg compared to the pep that the car will pick up.

Do not get that exhaust. Go with a real dual setup, either X-Pipe, H-Pipe, or divorced. All three work well on these cars. Supposedly the X pipe is good for an extra 1 or 2 hp over the others, but IMO the H sounds the best.

or if you have that much save a lil bit more and spend the money on a power pack (heads, cam, intake) and gain like 50-70 HP i think that was the numbers right? also magnaflows sound high pitches and ricey. most people on the forums will tell you thrush welded mufflers and have a exhaust shop make the system. i prefer MAC mufflers i can give you a sound clip of mine if interested, the same goes for a lot more people with other systems too. but if you got that much money and want some power gains look into real upgrades not bolt ons.
