Default Suspension questions!

So ill admit, im a total noob at suspension. But i know the rear shocks can be removed by just a few bolts. Do i need to kind of compress rear axle with a floor jack before i remove the shock? Or can it be done as long as the rear end is suspended and both rear tires are off the ground?

My dilemma is i have a steep driveway and i usually can get away with the factory hand jack and some blocks and it allows plenty of space to work underneath...so i really dont have a floor jack or any real jack stands.

Can i replace the rear shocks with my equipment? Im thinking not...but who knows. I suck at suspension. Thanks guys!

All you need is hand tools to replace the shocks, front and rear. Its simple, just time consuming. I did it with an extra set of hands for the first time (front and rear) and it took my a touch over 3 hours going very slow. You do need a jack to compress them as you take them out though. But you can pick up a jack and jack stands for relatively cheap, not a bad investment. I want a pair of ramps or blocks so I don't have to jack mine up every time but its too low.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a jack and jack stand set.

I bought a 2 ton jack and 2 jack stands for 70?? last year.

Yeah Shaun, you don't want to be scraping that Chin Spoiler. I love the ramps too, I hate jacking up cars.

Shaun..how did you replace the front struts with basic hand tools? We had to use an impact wrench to get the nut off bc the shaft turns with it

^ he probably used a wrench and a screw driver to remove the front strut aka PITA way lol.

Shaun if you dont want to scrape the chin spoiler pulling onto car ramps then just use a 2x10x4 .

It's easy if you have another person holding a bigass screw driver/claw and you turning a bigass wrench. Not too much of a PITA then.

Exactly. Thats what I did. It was a little bit of a pain in the *** however I got it done with the hand tools and some elbow grease.
