The only code that came on was the battery right before it stalled out? it was weird. I had no cats on the car so the service engine soon light was always on

Why buy a new motor? Thats a waste of money.

Buy a low mile 4.2L or another 3.8L and be done with it, go back to enjoying the car.

With a blown motor you would be hard pressed to get $2000 for the car, probably closer to $1500 and in this case mods dont matter. If I were to buy it from you, I would only give ya $1000 because I would have to have it transported down here.

Trust me, just put her back together with another motor.
Check craigslist and wreckers for low mile motors that they can prove the condition and miles on and offer a warranty.

A 3.8L averages around $350-750 depending on who you buy it from and the 4.2L is about the same. You just need a longblock, you can have everything swapped over from your motor.

i would think most people on the forums would also respect a nice car, personally i just dont like the way chevys look and they are hard to work on. a well maintained car will last a good time and work nicely.

Do what Neo said... find a used motor with low miles and put it in.... Hell id only pay ya $500 because the towing cost would be about as much as the motor.. when the bearing went out was there oil in the car? I know it sounds stupid but I blew a motor doing 65 because I had a bad seal I didnt know about and all the oil blew out on the highway and threw a rod through the block....
