yeah youd probably just have to get used to driving it. im sure it would come in more handy then the open diff though. i know i hated driving my mustang in the winter, partly because of the open differential, it would cause me to get close to getting stuck more times than not. other part was because i felt i was hurting the car by driving it through all that crap

Everything on the East coast rusts like mad, the road salt you use in the Winter is most of the problem. I would avoid driving my Mustang in the winter and we have no rust issues in MT, there are much better suited cars to winter driving and it doesn't damage my car. I have 100,000 miles on my GT and the paint is nearly perfect, under the hood is immaculate, and anywhere else you can check for wear it's in top shape. I baby my car way too much to put it through winter driving. If that's all you can afford then more power to you, you're driving what you want to drive and won't let anything (including mother nature) stop you. If you can afford to pick up something that does better in the snow I'd do it, otherwise we'll help you get where you're going as safely as possible.

thanks guys. i looked on craigslist yesterday and actually found some pretty promising jeeps for under 2k. all i can do is hope that deals like that will still be there in a few months when i will actually have the money for them and when they are actually needed.

Jeep = Just empty every pocket

look for a 86-93 toyota pick up or 4 runner, preferably with a 22RE 4 banger, 25 mpg, bullit proof and will get you any where

so talked to my dad today about getting a winter vehicle and pretty much got shut down. so i guess really good tires and very long commutes are going to be my only option for the winter. is there some sort of ridiculous god-like winter tire out there? lets say i will spend about $1,000 on winter "proofing" my car....from top priority to least, what should i get?

you could get studded tires. they're supposed to like stick to the road in the snow, but they are illegal in some places if i'm not mistaken. My buddy had a 00 F-150 2wd single cab and he threw some studded's on the rear for the winter and said he couldn't spin the tires if he tried in the snow.

my dad didnt like the idea at first either lol. i wound up getting one anyways i pay for everything on my cars anyhow, all he has to do is let them sit in his driveway.

is the car in pretty good condition right now? rust, paint condition? if both are good, i might suggest giving it a few coats of wax and get it undercoated. they use salt in NY right?

and blizzaks are supposed to be good tires. then just maybe get the lsd and you should be set
