Default Door Lock doesn't work properly

I've had a problem with my '01 for about a year now where the lock on my car door will most of the time not go down or come up when I use the key remote or the lock/unlock button inside the car. It started happening on the driver's side door only because my friend sat in the car and held the lock down while I tried to unlock it using the remote.

When I try to unlock/lock it with the remote or the button inside, it goes up/down halfway and then goes back up/down to it's original position (so pushing the lock button leaves the driver's side of the car unlocked and vice versa), like it wants to unlock/lock but it doesn't. On rare occasions, it will make it all the way to the unlocked/locked position but, usually, it doesn't.

I'm tired of having to remember to push the lock down before I get out of my car and close the door or having to use the key to get in the driver's side. What should I do to fix this?

I have pretty much the same problem with my 01 driver side door.

When I bought mine, I had to unscrew the thing that goes up/down when you unlock/lock it just a little bit. I know with mine it was screwed on too tight and the lock wouldn't go all the way down and catch so it could stay down.
