Default Gas Guzzler - Rough Accerleration

Hey guys. My car (5-speed manual) is having a horrible issue with gas mileage, and acceleration is rough and choppy.

Starting from a total stop on flat pavement is rough, but starting from a full stop when on an incline is painful. The car bucks and studders and barely wants to take off at all.

Anyone have any ideas? I've heard everything from MAF/IAC, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, etc, but I don't want to go blindly replacing parts that are still good. The car also has new plugs and wires, and a new battery. There is no SEL, and I don't have time to take it to a shop just yet.

Anyone have else ever have this issue? I don't really even know where to start.

Thanks.

start by checking the basics.

check engine light on? if so get it checked
spark plugs and wires - inspect for proper routing and for fouling and proper gap.
check fuel pressure should be 30-35 psi.

your description of your problem can be caused by many things. you have to do the legwork to find the problem, or take it to a shop.

Sounds like the same issue I had- my MAF sensor came unplugged. Ckeck all of your wiring connectors and fuses.

Is your service engine soon light on? If so, find out what code it is throwing. Any Autoparts store should tell you for free. If it says a misfire on any cylinder, you could have the same issue that I did. I had to replace my Ignition Coil Pack. I used this one http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...amon-Coil-Pack

My car was saying "Misfire on cylinder 1" It was chugging and having choppy acceleration. Replacing this fixed it. Let us know what codes you have first.

If it does come down to the MAF, how much should I expect to fork over for one? And is Advanced Auto Parts a good place to get it from?
