Question Driver side window scratching

The outside of my driver side window is starting to scratch from opening/ closing the window. I have a 2001 model, so perhaps the outside felt needs replacing? I had the inside felt wrapped latches already replaced, and doing so did nothing to alleviate my problem. The window is only 3 years old and it looks far worse than my passenger one which is nearly 10 years old. Because of this I have refrained from using my window unless absolutely necessary.

The scratches occur on the OUTSIDE and not on the inside to the tint.

Any ideas?

The outside felt needs to be cleaned or replaced. Or there is something on the inside of the door that is coming in contact with the window as it goes up/down that is causing the scratches.

I would start by checking out the felt first… Most likely its just got some dirt or something in it that is scoring your windows. Simply cleaning it should fix the problem. However, if the felt is worn away then it needs to be replaced.

Good luck...

Question

The felt is 10 years old and extremely worn. Actually, there is not much of it left. It definitely needs to be replaced. Do you know where I can order some? Does it need to be OEM?

I'd say the best way of getting exactly what you need as soon as possible would be to just go into your local dealer and ask for it. They might have it in stock and if they don't, they'll have it within 2-3 days probably. Especially with a cheap part like that, that's what I'd do.

Those things are so cheap, it's suprising, get them from the dealer, and get all four so the black will match the 1/4 windows.

I'll go by a dealership next week to purchase the felt.

I have another issue related to that window.. has anyone ever had a window sanded, or whatever the terminology is, to remove very minor, fine scratches? My driver side window has many scratches, but all of them are extremely shallow. The window is less than 3 years old, and if this method cost less than the cost of a new one, I'd gladly go that route.

I was wondering where I can get this done, as there is no place that does it in my city. I am close to San Antonio, though.

The Eastwood Company has a kit for it, all you need is a drill.
