Hi, I have a 2000 3.8L, I'm replacing the H-pipe on it now with a Jegs 2 1/4 H-pipe and Magnaflow Cats. I want to have a versatile setup so that I can remove the cats every once in a while and then put them back in.

The h-pipe is a true 2 1/4 but the cats inlet/outlet are a little random between 2 1/4 and 2 1/2. Because of this the H-piping fits into the cats, so I don't think a flat butt clamp will work. I would probably need a lap joint but then when I put the straight pipe back on I would probably need a butt clamp.

What's the best kind of clamp to use in this situation, as I'd rather not have to buy 8 total clamps (four butt for straight piping and four lap joint for cats). I also see Jeg's lap joints say that they're not supposed to be re-used, once removed.

Well that makes no sense, why not just put some cutouts in front of the cats. Why would you want to remove them anyway, it's not going to increase your performance

yeah thats what i was thinking, if you wanna bypass the cats, then go with cutouts

Thanks, I never considered cutouts. I mainly wanted this kind of setup out of curiosity of sound, or in-case the cats ever go bad, and I have Bamachips Tunes for a catless and catted setup.
