Default Oops...I didnt remove the rivets before removing the inner tie rods

This was the first time I have removed inners tie rods from on a car with rack and pinion. I didn't take the rivets out first and did not hold the rack with a wrench while loosening them. Anyone else ever do this? what's the potential damage?

Thanks for the reply. I checked the threads and they were ok and used a crescent wrench to hold the rack while I tightened the new tie rods.

Regards

What rivets are you talking about? All you do is take the outter tie rod off the spindle, loosen the inner, remove the outter, replace outter on new inner. Install inner on rack and pinion then reinstall outter on spindle.

Easy peezy lemon squeezy

The inners have either an aluminum rivet or roll pin depending on year.
