Default Fake shaker hood?

I love the look of shaker hoods and the fact that they shake with the engine, but $800 for something that gives you almost no benefits besides looks is a little redic to me. Has anybody heard or seen a place that sells a fake one, still mounts to the engine but doesnt route to the intake? I figure maybe worse comes to worse I could make a fiber glass scoop mount it to a thin piece of sheet metal and make a bracket to mount it onto the engine using bolts already on the engine. That way it shakes with the engine and still looks good.

Thoughts?

With that kind of effort involved (especially with cutting a whole in your hood), you might as well go with the real deal. Just sayin'...

$75+time>$800. I'm a broke college kid. haha And either way you have to cut the hole. I could probably just take some wire mesh to for a basic shape and use the holes as guides to connect it to the engine. That in theory would knock the price down another $30.

Being that no engine these days 'shakes' - the 'shakers' these days are only as good as you want them to look. CDC and Roush both make an overlay kit, but you will be cutting a hole anyway you look at it.
I've seen one person mold the Mach 1 middle section of a hood into a 94-98 hood. It looked awesome.

I've done work with fiberglass and painting on cars before, so I'm not new to it. I do a lot of electrical design, so I'm not new to designing things either. I don't know how it would turn out. Worst case scenario is I waste $35. I can just make the scoop, and go from there on whether I would want to mount an cut a hole in the hood. It wouldnt look like the Mach 1 scoop, but it would be different.

Yeah, they don't shake. but you could loosen your motor mounts and get a good shake out of it. :-)

However, I have to admit it does look pretty cool when you rev the motor and see the motor/shaker move.

My motor shakes a bit... even with the convertible mounts.
