Default coil pack help

I am not very mechanically inclined. My 2002 v6 stang (auto) started jerking during acceleration today. This has happened before and it was the coil pack. I was wondering if anyone can talk me through testing my coil pack so that I dont need to go to a mechanic. I do have a multimeter and tons of tools.

Any pictures would be great even if they are quick sketches or just arrows on a picture taken from google of the actual coil pack showing where to put the leads of the multimeter. Thanks for any help

what brand coil pack did you put in to replace the original? some brands just wont hold up since theyre cheap. But inspect the coil pack for cracks, that would be the first step. oh that and if there are any CELs have them checked to make sure you aren't looking in the wrong area

Also make sure that the plugs and wires are good and securely connected to the coil pack. You can visually inspect a spark plug, but a visual inspection of a plug wire is almost useless (unless you find a melted section, which is rare). My girly's ride had a similar problem and it turned out that one of the plug wires was not secure on the coil pack. It was the type of wire that doesn't have the little arms to hold the socket from the wire onto the coil pack "nipple".

Duct-taped it down and it was all good. Eventually replaced all the plug wires with ones that have the little arms. No problems since...

btw, AutoZone has a spec sheet for our coil packs for the primary & secondary coil within the coil pack. You can use it to figure out if the resistance on the primary & secondary coils is out of spec. Good luck...
