Why? Misfire in cylinder 1.

Hello. About six months ago I started getting a slight misfire. I didn't think a thing about it so I kept driving. It would only happen rarely when my engine was under a load. Then it started getting worse. My car wouldn't accelerate at all without jerking violently and the check engine light started blinking so I had it checked. Misfire in cylinder 1. No problem, right?
I had no clue when the plugs and wires were last changed so I decided to change them all. All new plugs and wires.
The problem seemed to be fixed temporarily. Most of the jerking was gone but when I tried to accelerate at low RPMs (2,500 or less) I still get the consistent jerk maybe twice a second. I thought maybe my injectors were clogged so I put some seafoam in the tank and also put it in my brake booster hose and let it sit. Some white smoke came out the tailpipe but not too much. I put seafoam in the tank a maybe 5 or 6 times a year so I don't think my injectors are ever really too dirty.
But still, when accelerating at RPMs any less than say 2,500, I get a constant shutter/jerking. What else could it be? I checked the gap on my plugs before I put them in. All new plugs and wires. Clean injectors.
I ran a search and found that maybe the ignition coil (distributor) was going bad. Perhaps it's ruining my plugs making it exponentially worse? Is the distributor that black box where the 6 plug wires plug into? Beyond plugs and wires, I know little else about the spark and what could cause a misfire. Is the ignition coil a common problem with the Mustang? Any brand recommendations or can I pick one up from a scrap yard from any v6 Ford?
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

As you have assumed, odds are the problem lies with the coil pack. Your car doesn't have a distributer and ignition coil, instead both are combined in what's called a coil pack. Change that and the misfire should be fixed.

While shopping, does brand really matter that much? American Muscle has Screamin Demon for $100. O'Reilly has Motorcraft for $108. Then there are the generics for around $70. Or I can pull one from a salvage yard. Anybody have any recommendations?

Use motor craft for the coil pack. Probably the best thing out there for all V6s except those in excess of 350 hp.
For plugs I like NGK v copper plugs. Really good quality plugs that are exremely durable and resistant to rust. Motor craft is good but does get rusty over time.
