Question Let me Rattle your brain for some mustang knowledge..

I recently acquired a 2000 V6 Automatic Mustang from a friend for a pretty sweet deal, but this car has a big problem and I believe the Transmission is need of a rebuild. Lets see what you think.

At normal acceleration, the car seems to go into neutral for about 1 second. All of the gears shift smoothly. When 4th does engage, its smooth as well. However, under heavy acceleration all of the gears shift fine.

He truly believes its the MAF sensor, but I think one of the bands in the tranny has gone bad.

What do you think? Is it possible the MAF sensor could cause this? Or is this a common tranny related issue?

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the Mustang. I have a 2000 with 195,000 miles, the trans is fine on it, these can take a lot of miles and abuse. Have you checked the fluid level? Have you had the trans serviced? Usually a worn band will slip more when you are under heavy acceleration. How many miles?

I did check the fluid level and it is too high. I bet the previous owner was trying to fix the issue. And Thanks, Mustangs are awesome and so is this place. I am at 186,000 miles. I do the previous owner personally and he drove the car daily for about 1 year. He said it has been this way since he obtained the car and has not ever gotten any worse... I just dont wanna change the tranny out if its not going to fix it. But again. I cannot see it being the MAF Sensor either...

And thanks for the reply

Its not really a hesitate, its more of a transmission slip. but right before the car goes into 4th gear it basically revs up for about 1 second. and thats a badass car
