You're looking at a 1-2 hp gain over stock for either.

Also your not sticking anything on the end of anything. Your replacing the stock filter with a filter exactly the same in the filter box only it's made by k&n. Your just removing the little rubber tube part that comes off the air box and going into the fender.

Look at it in terms of HP/$

For a CAI you're like at 5 (max and being very generous, you won't get this with a cheapy CAI and probably won't get it with a BBK either...) HP for the $199 BBK CAI. = 0.025 HP/$

For a SC, Find one used with Low Mileage for like $2000 (I'm not that familiar with these but I've seen them on CL for this and less. Once people decide to dump them, they want to get rid of them ASAP). for 50% (people boast higher gains like 60-70%) gain on 190hp = ~95HP more. = 0.0475 HP/$
PS. Buying this New lands you in the $3750 range = 0.0253 HP/$ range

Not only is the HP/$ higher... but at least with the SC you'll actually "feel" a difference and get the power gain you want.

IMHO.... People go for CAIs because it's what they can afford. Unless it's a windstar, I will file it away with the performance gains of a mach chin spoiler or a grill delete.

Pass on the cheap eBay cai. I bought a car with one and the "k&n" filter on it was clearly a ripoff and I wouldn't doubt that filter performed less satisfactory than a namebrand one would

there pretty much all the same, if you trimmed the silencer or took it off that would more or less be whatever gains from a CAI
