Hey guys, I'm new to the mustang world, and mostly new to the Ford world. I'm a GM and Camaro guy by heart but GM has me agitated and I'm looking for a new toy. I'm looking for a V-6 (I know, but its gonna be a work car to run the miles up on) Other than general mechanical things, what are specifics to look at on a 3.8 that's over 10 years old? General things that go wrong or to watch for. Just Mustang specifics that go bad? Any certain spots that rust out quick or I need to watch? What do you look for when you go to buy a 90's model? I know with hours of research I could find what I"m looking for but, Id like to actually get real, direct feedback on this. Plus it will be a good for future people looking to get a Mustang. Thanks ya'll and I greatly appreciate all the help and info you guys can give.

I've heard of a lot of dying coil issues, easy fix that seems to stump a lot of people. Mine is a vert and I have two tiny rust spots on the metal running across the top of the windshield. I'm not sure if this is typical or I'm just unlucky though.

I'm going in the early afternoon to take a look at a either 99 or 00. It was advertised as 2000, but he said 35th anniversary, I may be a camaro guy, but I'm not as dumb as a bowtie. But either way Im still interest, 150,000 miles, used as a pilot car on the highway. no dings or dents, and only a couple small scratches. DVD/NAV/CD player 1000 watt mtx amp, and 3, i 12" mtx subs, a K n N intake and a CB radio. Black leather Interior and Auto. He wants 3k for it

Basically just oil leaks and the norm when buying a new car, not really and major mustang specific issues that I know of, also looks like gt rims if I'm not mistaken.

Not sure about what to look for that might be wrong. Check everything in the car though. All I know is that for maintenance there is a certain type of oil that ford recommends and I highly suggest using it. It really improves the life of the car. It's in the vehicles manuel.

yeah nothing really stands out for things to watch out for. just general wear, especially with a car that has 150000 miles. i would definitely expect to be replacing things if they havent been done recently

Mustangs don't have many specific issues that go wrong at x amount of time. Some have crapped out at 100k and others continue to run with over 300k on them all depends on how well you maintain the car. You won't look for anything other than the normal staff you look for when looking at used cars. Now like all cars of age the older they get the more inclined they will be to have stuff fail so do not forget that. The manner in which the car was stored will have the greatest effect. Cars left outside for 10 years will have freaters wear due to corrosion than cars in a garage or carport. So definitely look over the electrical aspect very well as this is the area most effected, as well as the suspension and under body for rust and examine all hoses as these are other areas that are effected.

Typical problems:
Coil pack failure
Squeaking Cam Synchronizer (drives the oil pump too)
Steering pump whine, check fluid; if full its just a Ford issue then lol
window electric switches going bad
Odometer going blank, requires another cluster or do some sodering to yours
