Default What transmissions can I use for a swap

Ok, first let me apologize if a similar question has been asked and answered in a previous thread. I have been trying to use the search function but anything I search for always returns no results.

I have an automatic 2001 Ford Mustang Convertible with a 3.8l motor. I have a picture of it on my page if you would like to see it. It is my intention to do a swap to a manual transmission in the near future as one of my first mods. What I would like to know is will the T5 in the Fox body Mustangs swap without many problems?

I know there are a number of transmission that I could use, I am just not sure if the older models will fit or if I should even venture to place an older style trans in the newer ride. Please advise. Thanks.

The T5 from a fox will fit, but you need to use the 94/95 bell housing if I remember correctly. I'm sure someone will post quickly with better info. It's been several years since having a trans out of a V6.

You need a 94/95 belhousing and to modify driveshaft length. The foxbody T5s have a slightly shorter driveshaft than their 94+ counterparts.

So does this mean I could use the fox body drive shaft as well?

I'm not sure about this, but the fox bodies have a mechanically driven speedometer and the 3.8 has electronic after 1999, could be an easy fix or could be a problem, not sure.

well I have a question... what transmission is a direct replacement for the t5 and is the t5 the only transmission offered in the 3.8 as far as a manual?

Well, you need a 99-04 manual transmisson. Only those are the "direct swap".

Yes, the T5 was the only manual offered in the V6.

ok what transmission can handle hp levels around 500? I'm looking at pulling the crank from my old sc and getting a procharger kit with upgraded supercharger that can push for more boost hopefully ranging around that with heads headers and so on. and I know that the t5 wont last long on that level.
