Default SCT tuner time improvement??

Hey i have a 2000 V6 (Automatic) and im considering buying a SCT tuner from AmericanMuscle and i was wondering if anybody out there could tell me how many tenth's they picked up in the 8th mile using the race tune? seems like i lose alot of time off the line. american muscle says you gain 10hp and 10tq but does it really help alot on drag times?

thanks

I guess that all depends on the tune setup that you used. Was it more of a performance driving or a race setup? I personally haven't gotten my tuner yet, but I have seen enough good reviews on various sites that show that it will help in all circumstances.

cant say for sure since i already had my tuner before I went to the strip. I can tell you that you will feel a little jump in power and with a higher rpm shift from 1st to second, along with firmer shifts, will help your times out a little. make sure if you get a tuner, you are getting custom tunes with it

Replacing your rear gear with a 4.10 and adding a posilock would get you a better 60' than a tune. Right now as your car sits (stock gear and diff I'm assuming), that is what is killing you. Car struggles to get moving and if you do, it only has one wheel spinnin. 10hp and 10tq won't amount to much by themselves.

It's more than hp/tq numbers. The tune significantly improves throttle response, and the biggest thing with the auto is the improved shift points that are much firmer and quicker. And +1 to what Derf00 said

As stated above, A tune will REALLY improve your slush-box of a transmission, instead of dragging to shift to the next rpm range(gear). +2 to Derf, gears are EVERYTHING in a quarter or 1/8 mile. I can remember having a nice 440 setup in an old satellite I used to own, (one of many mopars 71) thought I was going to hit a nice number, WRONG!! I couldn't get it above 87 mph, turns out, the car had 273's in the rear, stock stall, too big of a cam, and a heavy *** B body which equals FAIL. The car actually did better under-shifting(4kish). Long story short, if you like to DRAG, 1/8 or 1/4, I'd go 430's or higher in the rear. I dropped 391's(should of went 4.56's) and a mild 2500 stall in that plymouth, TOTALLY DIFFERENT ride.

It should be noted that the high gear ratio 4.10 or higher may cause street driving to be a bit harsh. I have seen a lot of people complaining that they can get almost no traction in 1st or 2nd with the high gear ratio. If you want to remain street-able, I would suggest 3.73 gears with a T-Lok. If you are going to get bigger gears, I suggest looking into Explorers, Rangers, older Thunderbirds, and Mountaineers for your rear axle.

Here is a list that i was able to compile of good vehicles to look for. This list is not complete though. I am pretty sure the D4 is also a 3.73 gear with T-Lok that is not on this list. Then add a tune and you will be doing a lot better.

If you are set on going with a 4.1, here is a list of axles that you may be interested in:

How would it cause street driving to be Harsh? Please elaborate! And just to correct your post, it's a numerically higher NUMBER, Lower Gear.
