Question Question on flushing cooling system.

Hey guys I was wondering if anybody could tell my how to flush my cooling system(block only as im getting a new radiator.) I've seen a thread on here that talks about it but doesn't really get into detail on how exactly to do it. And I would preferably not want to take off the drain plug. Any help would be appriciated!

Just pull off the inlet hose on the radiator and run a pressurized garden hose while the engine's running. When it starts coming out clear it's done. Then drain the water and refill with coolant.

Make sure to do this with the engine hot so the thermostat is open.

And preferably do it somewhere that it's not a big deal if you make a mess. Cause you will.

Prestone also makes a kit for $5.00. You put a "Tee" fitting in the upper hose by fire wall and it has a hose fitting set of threads. Yes, you can take out the thermostat.

Are you talking about the flush n fill kit? Have you used it before? Good results?

It's 3.44 plus my 10% discount :-P
For 4 bucks it's worth a shot, I don't see how it could not work anyhow.

Dont know how the water is in Tx but here it is brutal on cars. I highlyrecomend using distilled water.

Install your new radiator. Remove thermostat and reinstall the thermostat housing. refill with only distilled water. Run for about 2 minutes to circulate and mix. Remove lower radiator hose or open radiator drain and drain al that will come out. repeat around 5 times till clear water only comes out. reinstall thermostat and new gasket. refill with only antifreeze. You should put 1/2 of the total coolant capacity back in in only antifreeze. total coolant capacity can be found in the owners manual. This will give you a 50/50 mix and not with mineral filled tap water.

This works for all vehicles by the way. May cost about $10 more buying water but worth it.

Water in south Tx is very rich with iron. That sounds like a great I idea; I'll jump right on that using distilled only. Thanks for the tip, I'll be back to tell ya how it went.
