Auto Shift cable broke- no 4th gear
Last week, my 2000 v6 Auto Mustang had an issue. I stopped in a parking space, put it in park and the car still went forward. I tried again- still forward. No reverse, nothing. So, I tried to drive it home- nothing but 2nd gear. I heard that's because it automatically puts it in safe mode. Anyway, I park the car, put it in park and turn it off- the key comes out, so it obviously senses it's in park. Took it to a shop, they said the shift cable broke. They replaced it and it worked... back to normal- park is park, reverse is reverse. OR SO I THOUGHT... it seems like overdrive is always off now. I have the button and when i push it, the dash lights up. But when I'm driving with O/D apparently on, the car shifts awesome as usual, but then never shifts to 4th gear. I have no clue why. Going down a hill, on the highway, it won't shift to 4th gear. I has occasionally since I have the shift cable replaces, but most times it does not. The only way i can describe it is that it seems overdrive is always off. But then all of a sudden it will shift to 4th and does so until I turn the car off. Next time I drive it, you never know- it may or may not go into 4th. I have no idea what the deal is... about to take it to Ford, but figured I'd see if anyone had an easy solution or knew what was up so I can take it to a buddy's shop... Thanks
