Default 2004 V6 Injector removal question

Hi folks, My daughter's '04 V6 started running REALLY rough at low rpm within minutes after filling up. It smooths out above 1800 RPM, but is extremely rough below that. We figured bad gas, so we drained and dropped the tank, inspected the pump filter, and replaced the inline fuel filter. After remounting the tank the car ran just as bad. We dropped the tank again and replaced the fuel pump with the same result.

Now I'm thinking that it might have a plugged injector. I'd have the car hooked to an analyzer, but the ODB port under the dash doesn't work.

I want to remove the fuel rails and inspect the injectors. Do I have to remove the intake plenum to get the passenger side rail out? I'd rather not have to, especially if I need to do it multiple times.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wow! 124 views and no replies. Guess I'm on my own.

Chill out dude, that sure ain't gonna get you any help either, views aren't just from users and even of they were would you rather all the ones that don't know how to help you all clutter this post with well I have no idea how to help you. If the obd port isn't working that tells me there are electric issues with the car. I'd look into that. I can't remember off the top of my head what's going on in that side of the motor but I'm sure you could just loosen everything and have enough wiggle room to squeeze the injectors out. But if not why not just take all the injectors and have them inspected and cleaned. A lot of shops can and prefer to clean injectors while they are still in the car. I'd start there.

I have a 2010 4.0 and didn't have to remove the plenum.

Edit: For some reason I thought you had a '06. Sorry.

I agree with BabyGT. If the ODB port isn’t working, then you have at least one electrical problem. Could be a simple broken wire or as bad as a bad computer. All of which could also be the cause of your rough running motor. Good luck...

Sounds to me like a ground may be loose. Also check the charging system. If its weak the car will run like crap. If the alternator is going out, the higher rpms are helping it run better, but at idle it's barely working. I HIGHLY doubt it's your pcm as they just plain don't fail, in any car.

Has anything been done to cars electronics? Fog lights, stereo, etc????

OP this does not sound like a fuel system issue.

These cars are well known and Idk why this has not been mentioned yet, but the coil packs on these cars go out all the time and do crazy ****. Mine missfired and ran like **** between 2000-3000 rpm only. I tried new plugs/wires and no improvement. Replaced the coil pack, bam fixed.

But id check the plugs and probably replace those, and replace the coil pack. Im guessing its 1 or both of those issues.
