Angry I was just told I need a Rear Diff!!!!

I was just told that I need a rear differential for my 2003 Ford Mustang. Now, I am trying to caluculate my next move. Should I get it reman, rebuilt, junk yard, brand new etc. Also, does anyone know where I can get a good deal and a quality part and lastly if I have to do it, is there an upgrade I should be making? Also, just so I know I am looking for the right part, is the rear diff also the same as the rear end or axle assembly?

You could go to a junkyard and pull one out for pretty cheap, or if you wanted to upgrade you could pull the Tlok from an 84-86 Mustang GT. They have the 7.5 rear end and you get power to both wheels

Or you could just pull of an 8.8 rear end off a gt and upgrade the whole thing

good luck!

you need one? as in its necessary to drive your car? not really...

but if you want power, then yes. cuz stock our cars only spend one tire and if you punch it, your power would be unbalance right? all power to one tire is not good.

so 7.5 w/ posi or 8.8 from a GT that already have tok.
basically 4.10 gear for auto tranny and lower for stick.
yeah, its pricey plus install is pricey too.
lots of ppl go w/ 8.8 b/c you can do the install ur self plus its cheaper and stronger, but it'll be used.
there are lots of stories about 7.5 gears... some ppl report them falling apart w/ lightly mod engine like 220hp while other stories where they withstand 300hp+

ford raceing is a good brand, motive or richmod had whining issues.
yeah, do more research...

I went w/ 4.10 w posi using 7.5. and everything is good so far. im happy w/ it. super nice. MPG is good too.

around 800 for everything.

do you have a tuner to adjust the speedometer? or else its another 350+ for the tuner.

The ford t lok and the stock 7.5 are complete and utter POS, I went through 2 on my stock auto v-6 vert and 1 on a buddies Mach 1 with sticky tires, If you are upgrading in any way I would strongly suggest putting a Detroit true trac or eaton LSD in your 7.5, at your power level you could probably get away with an 8.8 swap but its not going to be as strong and I'm not a fan of swapping in someone else's problems, plus they weigh an extra 90 pounds over the 7.5

I would suggest upgrading gears and a Bering kit while it is all apart unless you are driving 80+% highway or going FI I would suggest 4.10

Also Richmond gears are straight cut not helical cut so they will whine, motives if properly installed will not whine and if the guy doing your install says other wise I would strongly suggest going to another shop
