i am still having an issue with my 2000 mustang 3.8L my car will tick when i dont have the clutch engaged. its not a lifter tick or a rod, its definitely coming from the clutch i dont understand what it is or how to fix it. This is something i have never heard of or ever had to deal with so please if you have any ideas let me know

Could be the throw out bearing starting to go out.

^ That's what I was thinking, the pilot or throw out, but don't they normally make more of a chirping or whine? But those were the only things I thought of in the clutch.

Yeah but he says when the clutch is NOT engaged meaning his foot is on the pedal. Complete opposite of what happens when it's TOB or pilot bearing. No clue on what woudl cause a tick with the clutch NOT engaged.

TOB is engaged when the clutch is not engaged so it could be his problem.

Ya it only does it when the clutch is not engaged so i should check the throw out bearing, and the TOB ? Thank you guys i will check those both out hopefully i can get this fixed and start on the more fun stuff like increasing power output lol.

If you are sure the sound is coming from between the trans and the motor, you'll have to pull it apart to look anyway. You might see something else while you're in there.
