Mustangs aren't rated for towing, and it's not a wise idea to be towing anything in your car. Your subframe, and drive train are not setup to haul loads.

As far as the OP I'll play, here's what each of my Mustangs got MPG wise:

98 Mustang V6: average 23 mpg, best 29 mpg
00 Mustang V6: average 22 mpg, best 26 mpg
95 Mustang 5.0: average 21 mpg, best 24 mpg
99 Mustang Cobra: average 22 mpg, best 27 mpg
97 Mustang GT: average 22 mpg (never tested a best, didn't drive it much)
08 Mustang GT: average 22 mpg, best 28 mpg
11 Mustang V6a: average 23 mpg, best 32 mpg

I have a 96 3.8L. I average about 28 mpg city and 33 highway. Recently I made 35.46 mpg after a 266 mile trip down I-5, which has been my best so far after owning the car for only 2 months. I have installed CAI but everything else stock to my knowledge.

back home in Oregon, i was averaging 25MPG.... driving down I-80 to maryland i was getting 28MPG with a fully loaded car (several duffel bags, golf clubs, all my army gear, 2 12 inch subs in the back, and a couple boxes) but since i got to MD driving a mix of city/HWY/mountains im only getting about 20-21 with only subs in the back. i just moved into a new house, and im now using 4 gallons of gas a day to get to and from work. anybody know how to improve this with out getting a new car?
