As far as performance
Intake, tuner, under drive pullies, uh...not much else you will prolly be able to do yourself.

My 04 looked almost exactly the same as yours when I got it

American muscle does their tunes in house and they specify it for you upgrades and car. I bet the borla sound sick on it? I did the same just with flowmasters :/ damn budget. Idk how you are on appearance but I'm in the white mustang club like y'all and I like subtle black accents. Some rims of your choice and a some lower springs would make it stand out. But nice car mustangq!

No need to chip or change your computer. You can buy a tuner that "reprograms" your factory computer, it plugs into the diagnostics port for your car.

So I am looking at tuners, what would you recommend? I was thinking about one with a screen that i can leave connected and mount on the dash, any suggestions?
Also, i hear there is a way to tune my V6 to make it almost equal to a V8, is this true?

I know the feeling about the budget, but figured if you are going to do it why not do it right, lol!
I like black accents too, but didnt really know how they would look with the tan convertible top?

Ya the top is a little bit of a killer. Another look iLife to see is just the sleeper look. Spend your money on the performance stuff. Doesn't matter what it looks like if its already gone

OK since you won't read the tech stickies I'll lay it all out.

1.) Your V6 has 190 bhp or approx 160 rwhp (give or take 10 rwhp due to about 20 variables). Your car will run the 1/4 mile in around 16.0s

2.) A GT (in your generation) has 260 bhp or around 225 rwhp (give or take 10 rwhp due to variables). An Edge GT will run the quarter mile in around 14.5s

3.) A tuner (any tuner) will only add around 5-9 rwhp (average of 7 rwhp) on a stock 99-04 V6 and your quarter mile times will have very little effect on an other wise stock car, maybe shaving 1/3 of a second at best with an auto transmission. As you can see, that's not even in the same ball park as a GT.

4.) Now I'm sure you're wondering....how do I get my car to perform like a GT....best answer....buy a GT. It will cost between $2500-4000 or more to get your V6 on par with a GT, however it's MPG and street worthiness will not be as strong as a stock GT so generally it's not worth the investment unless it's for educational or racing purposes.

As far as a tuner, only expensive over the top crap will do what your talking about and is 100% useless on a near factory car. All you need is an SCT XCAL tuner which plugs into your OBDII port to upload/download tunes. You can do some data logging if you wish, but it's really not needed. Nothing a good dyno tune can't do and a dyno will be more accurate.

i agree with you jthorn about if you want to perform like a gt then buy a gt, because you will always be able to get more power out of an 8 than you would a 6 with far less effort... however, I personally love the 6's and really like to see a NICELY modded 6 (not some riced out piece of s***). for under 18g's you can get these 6's to out run an 03-04 cobra, but at the same time for 18g's you can get an 03-04 cobra that will get a lot more respect on the street. The way i see it is, do you want a toy thats fast out of the box, or do you want to put the time, effort, love, and money (lots of money) into making one thats fast and completely your own?

For 18Gs I'd rather have the Corba for one sole reason.....

If something happens and I have to sell the Cobra, guess what, it's still worth something. What is a 18,000 modified 04 Mustang V6 worth.........

About $5000 on a really, really good day.

See my point? Then again, I am a little older and have different view points. The V6 does have it's place in the Mustang lineup, but being modified isn't one that makes a lot of sense. I've owned 3 V6s including my new 2011 and none of them would I ever dump money into, if I wanted a money pit I'd go buy a 5.0 or a classic to restore.

Yesterday me and the guy beside me in the parking lot got to our cars at the same time. He got in and started his V8 and I had the wife start my V6 while I loaded the trunk with our groceries and when he heard it he said "I wish mine sounded like that" ...I told him it was all in the mufflers

I just put together a parts list for $12,225 for a full engine rebuild twin turbo setup including exhaust. thats not too bad if you do the work your self, and it should be able to put down over 700rwHP... but you still gotta worry about transmission and rear end. so thats gunna be another few thousand dollars. then suspension and all the appearance mods you would want to do, another couple g's. but in the end you would have a very badass 6, that would definitely turn heads at the drags or car show and then sell for about 5 grand at the end of the day... but it would be one hell of a fun project

I'd love to have a Terminator Cobra. I just love the sound and the look of them so much. But I could not justify paying something like $25k for the same year car as mine that looks almost like one for $6k.

You can find them for 15-19k with decently low miles on them in "STOCK CONDITION". It's some dealers that "ask" the 25K range or more and pray they get it, but they never do. Anybody with half a brain will not pay more than 20K for a mint condition factory Cobra. Moded, they can loose value fast.
