Default TOB sleeve thing

So the TOB sleeve thing (don't know technical term) on my 1997 T-45 broke off and I have some questions for u experts. First will it seriously damage my clutch or tranny to drive with it loose? Next if I have to replace it where can I find this piece or, if its not available, could I have a metal shop make me one? Also is it ok if the sleeve thing is slightly damaged its still straight but it has some small dips in it. I can post a pic in a little bit to show the damage. Last of all how do I reattatch this piece to the tranny/bellhousing (whichever it's supposed to be attached to). Would it be better to take it in a shop and have them do it or is it pretty easy to do yourself? Thanks to all u experts who can answer my questions

If you are talking about the Throw out Bearing Retainer Sleeve, yes you need to replace it. I think this is what you need

Im not sure but according to ford they no longer carry that ,

You may need to do some research , but the t56 sleeve may fit it.

They are pressed in to the bellhousing.

Wow that is a hard part to find , the only ones I can find are for the t5, and the t56.

A new bell housing may be you ticket. I looked all over for the sleeve and they just don't make them any where any more.

Question

Here are some pictures of this retainer sleeve:

The shiny parts are where the little dips are you cant see them that well in the picture but the tube is still straight and has no other damage other then it fell off the bellhousing somehow.

Do you still think it needs to be replaced or can I just use this same one? And how hard is it to press it back into the bellhousing?

I believe it should look like this , this is out of a t56 and I think they are the same. (don't take my word for it though )
It appears as if yours has broken. I take it from your other post you already have the trans back in the car. I wonder if you could get some numbers off the trans Id like to be sure your dealing with a t45 as most places show the v6 cars with a t5 and the svt as a t56.

Ok so I spoke with tremec the t45 trans is obsolete. They don't carry that part, however the put me in touch with a place out of florida. The guy that I talked to on the phone said that the 96 v6 mustang should have a t5 , but that doesn't mean that someone didn't put a trans from a 96 ranger or something in the car.
Now the t45 uses 2 different types of that sleeve 1 is a serviceable and the other isn't. You need to get some numbers off of the trans so it can be identified. I have the contact info for the place in florida called pro-motion The man I spoke with is Wally he said they do carry those sleeves in stock and they run 90 bucks.
I will pm you the contact info , but what ever you do , DO NOT run that trans with out the sleeve. Also there is a chance that the input shaft bearing is bad and it allowed the input shart to smack up against that sleeve and knocked it out.

Ok I did some research and I now know why the sleeve is worn like that. The stock T-5 trannies come with an aluminum sleeve. Steel is stronger ten aluminum so with the steel throw out bearing against a aluminum sleeve the sleeve gets worn out. I'm gonna purchase a new steel retaining sleeve it's only about 40 bux. If you also have a T-5 tranny I would highly suggest this, even if your retaining sleeve isn't worn yet, it probably will be soon. Sorry again about the confusion it's not a t-45 transmission it's a T-5.
