So I've been trying to figure out what is causing a knocking sound in my V6 2000 Ford Mustang Coupe. There is a definite knocking sound between 1000-1500 RPM. It only does it when the it's in drive (I have an automatic). Just revving doesn't cause the knocking but if you're driving, or holding the brakes in drive, and are between 1000-1500 RPM it's there. Reading a couple other posts about knocking, it doesn't sound as violent as a thrown rod, and it goes away above 1500 RPM, the engine seems to run fine, no roughness or anything. If I had to say it sounds like it's coming from somewhere it sounds like it's coming from the drivers side.

whens the last time you changed your spark plugs?, im guessing cyl 6

Sounds like a valve to me. Might pour in a tiny bit of Marvel Mystery Oil. Wonder if it could be a lifter?

run some techron fuel additive cleaner clean the injectors, id possibly look into a tune up wires oil etc..

we have a similar sound - not as pronounced... drive my son crazy, it just sounds like valves tapping to me
