Default Do my Front and Rear wheels need to be the same width?

Hi, it's my first time on the forums as i recently bought my 2000 Stang!

I was wondering if it is necessary to buy wheels that are the same width front and rear. I have been looking at matte black bullitt deep dish wheels and want 18s.

Can the rear wheels be 18x10s and the front 18x9s?
Will it cause odd handling or wear?

Thanks in advance

Welcome hope you have fun in your new 2000!

Yes you can def have a different width rear tire size. Actually putting 10s out back will provide a little better traction. But trust me you'll notice even a huge gain in grip over stock even with 9s. But the staggered look cant be beat.

But my friend here is your problem... Since your tires are different sizes... you can not rotate them properly. So as you can guess your back tires will wear out much faster than the front, and tires of this size arn't cheap in the first place. That is why i went with 9s all around for me. You can try a spacer but I would not recommend that.

Hope this helps and welcome!

Thank you very much, I might go all around 9's as you suggested.
I was more curious than anything!

Unless your sliding all over the place and doing burnouts your not gonna notice much of a problem with the rear wearing faster on a solid axel car. Plus it's not like many of us are making enough power to be doing to much crazy stuff.

Yea that was my other point. I think ive only every had wheel spin once on my 9s since ive had then. They just dont break lose with the power we have. So if you want the deep dishes... You cant beat the looks they offer

The fronts wear faster then the rears do to weight transfer to the front during breaking and while cornering. So not being able to rotate the tires is a concern. I agree the staggered look looks cool, but if money is an issue (which it is for most people) it may not be the thing for you.

Good luck...

You guys must be pretty aggressive with your cars, I'm still on the same set of tires from almost two years ago!

(Notice I said aggressive not rough, there's a difference)

As long as you maintain your alignment, it's not a problem. Your tires will wear even. Tire rotations are just to hide suspension anomalies that are indicators of minor alignment issues or worse, ignore suspension problems all together.

I have staggered sized tires on my car (not rims) 235/55 18 up front (OEM size) and 255 50 (in the back). My rears are wearing faster than the fronts but only because I'm pretty aggressive
