Default smoking steering column, about to call mechanic

Okay, so it was on a hot day, i came out to my car and started the engine. right away the steering column blew out white smoke and i heard electrical shortage.
immediately, i turned the car off. then wondered what the hell happened. then started the car again and everything was fine. i drove slowly at first to see if anything was wrong.

Everything was fine, until i tried to use my turn signal. not working of course.

I think to myself, oh well its just a blown fuse... i'll fix that when i get home.

got home, checked all fuses (under the dash and in the hood) all fuses were intact (used a volt meter).

i always use my signals when i drive and i mentally get pissed off at people who dont, so now i have to be one of those people... that drives me crazy.

any help would be appreciated. thanks

to make matters worse, i do have sequential lights and fog lights.

here's the symptoms...

right signals work perfectly, all lights works on the right signal.

left signals blinks fast. only the front left blinks fast and all of the rear died.

please help.

all blubs look like they are intact.

What a waste of time, I tore opened the steering column and couldn't find anything. (so whats w/ the smoke in the first place.)

anyways, i took a long break and went back at it again. this time i opened the tail light suspecting the sequential lights and it was.

as soon as i opened it, i can see melted wires. here's a pic.

after i opened I can see even more melted wires all the way to from sequential module to the light socket.

I once wired in some fog lights on my 74 Corolla. Flicked the switch and instantly the wire went bright red and melted it all the way from the switch to the lights. there was smoke everywhere lol. Needless to say they never worked again.

Follow the wire with a replacement wire. More than likely you hit a ground
