Default Ticking?

Alright I'm new to these cars, but in the general sense an engine is an engine.

But I've got a slight ticking sound in my 2002.
I tried doing a fresh oil change, and it's still there.
It doesn't sound like it's coming from the heads, more so from the x-pipe while in the car.
And even getting down on my hands and knees it's sounding like it's coming from the cats.

So my problem is I'm unable to pinpoint it to a certain point.

Is there anything, anywhere that I should look at before I get my hands into it?

Sure it's a tick?, and not more of a pffft sound? The locations your describing would lead me to suspect a pinhole or crack in your exhaust creating an exhaust leak. The passenger side manifold is prone to cracking due to the AC condensation drain location. Mine has a small crack that "ticks" as the engine is cold and goes away as it warms up and the metal expands sealing the crack.

that could quite possibly be the problem. I notice it more so when its cold, and after it's warm not so much.

I was talking to a tech at the dealership and he mentioned the manifold gaskets and I was going to swap em out.

But the way you described it, I think I'll just have to order a new set of headers

So I'm curious, I'm going to be a little cheap about this. found doorman manifolds on amazon and was wondering if anyone knew what the part number was.

I know it says left or right, but I've always ordered sets and not just one.. So is the passenger side the left? (assuming they are looking at the motor)

Head to local parts yard and grab the manifolds from a 94-98 v6, they actually flow better and will be pretty cheap. Bolt on install.

Mine drained right on the pipe below the first O2 sensor on the passenger side. I knew I had an exhaust leak but hadn't put much work into finding it until I changed the clutch a few months ago and had to take the y-pipe off. It had cracked the pipe almost all the way around.

I took it to a local exhaust shop and had him weld that shut, weld a plate over it, and do something else to the exhaust for like $80. Are you sure that your leak is on your headers and not the pipes?

That is not factory, where that crack is, is where the first cat meets the pipe coming off the exhaust, that looks to be from inferior metal being used or to much pressure being pulled up on the back half of the exhaust.
