Default A Few Issues

Hello all,

My car recently hit 86,000 miles and since then it seems like one new noise after another is popping up

The first thing is occasionally at around the 800-900 rpm mark i hear a rattling sound which i am assuming is a loose exhaust somewhere because it sounds like i have an exhaust leak right now for sure. I plan on getting this looked into sometime in the near future, just haven't had the chance to get around to it lately.

Then maybe a week ago once my car gets hot and has been running a bit i start to hear what sounds like belt squeak, anyone have any other ideas what it could be? I was just unsure why it would only do it when it gets hot.

Other than that I think it's just time for some basic fixes, such as new shocks and struts (suspension is a bit squeeky sometimes) and new brakes most likely as they have just recently started squeaking as well...I guess when it rains it pours.

Squeak once warm tends to be the crankshaft sensor synchronizer shaft.

I just did a clutch on my cousins Ford Ranger. We unbolted the exhaust. When putting it back together a few bolts broke left a loose exhaust flange. It made a squeeking sound. Definitely check your exhaust.

That would not sound like a squeaking belt.

When you say it gets hot then squeaks do you mean normal op temp and it squeaks or do you mean it overheats and then does it? If its the 2nd then maybe some coolant is sprayed out and getting on the belt or something.

Yeah I mean normal op temp. It won't squeak or anything when I first turn it on. It will usually start a couple minutes after I start it, so just as it's warmed up basically. It doesn't always do it, but pretty frequently. The rattle is also hit or miss. I plan on getting it to a shop eventually for a thorough look over since it probably really needs it anyways, just strapped for cash at the moment.

I'm still guessing synchro shaft based on what you are saying.

It could be this, but listening to some mustangs that have this issue on youtube mine sounds nothing like the extreme level of noise they are having, but it could be mine just started to go bad. If this is the case, is this an easy DIY kind of fix or best to let a shop handle it?

Could also be a bad tensioner pulley.
