Engine Problem Question
Hello!
I just bought a 1996 Mustang V6 with 175k miles. I bought the car today and drove it about 50-60 miles in the next 5 or 6 hours after I bought it without any problems. I did some random accelerations and everything was fine. I get home and I leave the car for about 20 mins, I get back in and am driving down the street doing a pretty good acceleration, I let off the gas and go around a small round about where I live and after that, the lights and dash go dim and the rpm is indicated at 0 even though the engine is not and is still on. None of the gauges work and they flicker in and out. I restart the car, the gauges are normal again. I drive about 1/2 a mile and the same thing happens, I drive the mile back to my house and park it. Open the hood and the engine seems normal... Does anyone think they know what is going on?
The guy I bought it from mentioned that he thinks the oil pump is going or something... could that be it?
Any response would be appreciated! Thanks!

There is likely a loose connection or damaged wire near the instrument cluster. The cluster is pretty easy to remove. I’d start there. A bad oil pump would not cause an electrical issue like the one you describe. Good luck...
