Default Leaking rear axle bearing and checking deferential fluid level

Hi,
I've have a rear wheel bearing leak and I would to know how anyone checks to see if it the deferential is low on fluid. I have a feeling there's no easy way. In the old days I could have sworn someone stuck their finger down into a hole where a bolt goes on the deferential.

I have searched for 3 hours online and have manuals that tell me NOTHING.
Thanks for your time.

Good! Thanks! I found the dipping of the finger inside thing online so I guess I was onto it. Thank you again.
