Any good engine build books?
I need a book that explains step by step how to assemble a 98 3.8 block. Does anyone know a good book to walk me through it?
I took my blown up engine to a local engine builder to rebuild it for me. Over 4 months later all he has done is $700 worth of machine work. I took it to this company so they could beef it up, put in a cam and stroke it to a 4.2. At the time it was going to be no problem. Now he said that there are issues with these options. Bottom line he does not want to fool with the engine so I think know the best thing to do is pick the engine up and put it together myself, stock. I have put together a few older small blocks but nothing like this. I'm sure I can do it if I can get a good book on it.

Chilton's Auto Repair Manuals are often a good guide. Keep in mind that if you have hot cams or forged internals some of the specs might be different. (Clearance's, timing) I don't know much about it on these motors, but you'll have to look into it.
I'm assuming if you put together older blocks before that you have the necessary tools (Torque Wrenches 3/8 and 1/2, Valve Spring and Lifter Tools, Wax Strings to check bearing clearances, Dial Indicator to check thrust movement of crank) Projects always seem to get bigger than they look lol
Best of Luck!
