Exclamation Help please-Alternator replacement problem

Let me start off by saying I am SUPER new to fixing my own vehicle. So I would appreciate help, but please, in ways I can understand. Yesterday my alternator went, and today I attempted to replace it. But when I try to get the tension off the belt to unhook the alternator, I couldn't. I tried using the square slot to get it first, and then the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley. I couldn't move either one... Now this may be because I'm a 22 year old female weakling, OR I'm missing something. SO if anyone has any details on how this should be done it would be much appreciated.

Welcome!

Make sure you are rotating the tensioner away from the belt, not into it. If you're still having a hard time, you probably just need a little more leverage. Slip a length of pipe over the handle of your ratchet and it will move a lot more easily. And use the square hole to avoid turning the pulley bolt.
