DIY tail light sequencer for less than $10
#11
I need to revise the setup a little bit, there's an issue with the electronic flasher when a bulb is missing. I need to put in a load resistor to mimic the 2 bulb setup when the tail lights are on, in the sequencer only 1 bulb lights initially and this will speed up the flasher since the current flowing is not large enough. In my flasher test setup I setup a 3ohm load to simulate the actual load (current) otherwise the flasher relay will do it rapidly. I am thinking of adding a capacitor to the flasher relay to slow down the sequence, somehow I think the speed seems ok to me currently..

I have been reading on this topic, I saw one post where they added a second capacitor in addition to the original, the capacitor in my flasher has a value of 3.3uf. One post also replaced the 3.3 uf with a 4.7uf capacitor. Thank you for all the information you have been providing on this mod.

i replaced the capacitor in the flasher to 4.7uF and I'm satisfied with the results.
hoping for a warmer weather this weekend for the installation.

Do you still need to 3 or 6 ohm load ? I was wondering if you would need both, the load at the light would only change the rear lighting flash rate while the resistor in the flasher will change both the front and rear flash rate. Looks great !

yes, you still need 1 load resistor for each side, I used the 6ohm connected to 2nd light (based on the revised wiring diagram). The load resistor is only active when the 2nd light is not yet on, it switches from the resistor to the bulb when on making the load and flash rate stable. The capacitor on the flasher is still needed to make it flash slower (it affects the front too). I'd just buy the 1.50$ cap on radioshack instead of forking $50 in AM or from other sites.

Just wondering if you ever got a chance for the install ? I am still waiting on delivery of the timing modules and been thinking of a way to enclose the resistor and modules to install inside the trunk area out of the elements.

unfortunately the weather has been below freezing for the past weekend, weather forecast for the next weekend seems to be better. I might have the chance to install it. I have it an enclosure currently from RadioSchack with the load resistor out.
