Ok, using test light on wires in connector

With switch unplugged from connector: Black w/ orange stripe-hot, tan w/ white stripe-no power, blue w/ red stripe-no power, solid brown-no power, red w/ yellow stripe- no power, green w/ yellow stripe-hot, solid grey- hot

With original switch:

With switch connected, turned off: Same as above

Switch set to running lights: Same as above

Switch set to headlights: Same as above except red w/yellow stripe is now hot

Switch held so all lights come on: All wires are hot

With new switch:

All is the same except for when switch is held to get running lights on, then no power on red w/yellow stripe

My gauges light up when they feel like it. 90% nothing then 10% of the time they flicker on and stay on.

That sure sounds like a bad switch.

Think the new switch was bad too? Even tho they both were good according to the continuity check in the book?

Whoops, somehow I skipped over that bit of info. Sorry for jumping to conclusions.

After slowing down and reading your posts more carefully, I see that you're not finding power at the tan/white wire. I believe that one's supposed to be hot. Check fuse #5 in the panel under the dash.

All fuses were good when I checked before, but I will check again here in a bit just to be sure, maybe I missed one

Well, turns out it was the fuse, when I looked under there before and checked all of them I didn't even question the open spaces, I just assumed those were for fuses not used in this car, but when I took a closer look at fuse 5 I realized it has contacts in it so I put a fuse in and it seems to work fine

So the whole problem is I'm dumb lol
Thanks for the help folks

Just can't trust previous owners...

Glad you got it working! It was probably going to be time for a new switch soon anyway, so don't feel bad about buying that new one.
