Default Auto Stick

I bought an UPR automatic stick shifter **** (black anodized) with the overdrive button relocation to replace the dull factory one. My problem is that the shift lock is not working properly and goes from neutral to reverse without the push of the button. UPS says that the **** is not going all the way down, but I'm not convinced. Even the car key fails to come out of the ignition, until I play with the plastic part that goes inside the stick shift (I removed and cleaned it and put it back properly greased).

Any ideas?

well in my 96 I had a auto, with out pushing the button on the side of it I could throw it from reverse to neutral. So this may be normal...

I doubt you can put the car from say, drive to reverse without pushing the button... but yes its normal to be able to put the car into neutral from reverse or whatnot.

After I reverse, I just pull the handle back to drive... i never use the button when I do that. Only when I put it in park or whatever.

You should be able to go to drive or reverse from neutral or drive and reverse to neutral...just make sure that it doesn't move w/o pushing the button from, say, drive to 1st...etc.

The guy who owned my car before me put a new auto shift **** on and it does not go from neutral to reverse but it does go from reverse to neutral. And it is kinda tuff to push the button down. if that helps at all.
