Default Tire Size Q

So I have a 99 mustang, with only exhaust and cold air, i'm looking to put rims on it now.

It has brand new tires and stock hideous rims but the new tires will be melted onto the road soon enough (lol)

I am probably going to go with a black w/ polished lip fr500 rim. 17/9 in the front and 17/10-1/2 in the rear. my question is about tire size.

With the front, I was thinking a 245-45-17 on the front and a 315-35-17 on the rear. I'm going for a road race look with this car, and I want the wheels to be even with the fender well, not sunk in like they are now. i would like some reccomendations, perhaps some pictures if anyone has anything similar, and can I expect any problems from this? I used to have black cobra-r's on my 95, but they got sold with the car. and I wanted something different, and locally, i have yet to see any fr-500s around here.

Also, the exterior is stock so in the meantime, anyone got any visual mod reccomendations for me? Thanks!

I have 245/45's on my 17x9 cobras. While they are OK, they need to be one size wider, but I can't for my life remember what that is right now... a 255/40 maybe?

And appearance... either get better headlights or tint those...

Just wanted to let you know, you are just wasting money putting a 315 on the rear. If you are looking just for the looks of it then please slap yourself with the money you have to spend on it first or just let me have it instead. If you want a wider wheel out back a 275/40 would be fine but still is pointless for the use of it. But hey its your car and your money. Too wide of a tire on a car that doesn't need it can actually slow you down.

x2 the rims will actually add weight to slow it down also

so what would be the reccomended size for a 17x9 on the front and a 17x10-1/2 on the back. that wouldnt make me lose the ability to spin them over, mess up my speedo, or lose power? if thats possible

I would stick with the 275/40. The tire brand is what is going to really determine if you can turn them over or not.

All the way around? or a 275 on the rear and a 245 on the front? and my last car I had sumitumos on it and they sucked..and it couldnt spin them over..however this car is much more powerful...

245/45 in the front and 275/40 in the rear. How did your sumitomo suck but yet you couldn't turn them over?? I know they are not the best tire around but they are decent.

so i had 255s all the way around on it (yes they scrubbed on the front) and me and my brother built that car all summer, when i trailered it home, he backed it off the trailer, turnt the wheel and dumped the clutch and the tires simply gripped and whatcha know, it popped my rear end, spun the spider gear out.

Quite frankly, im a guy who likes to smoke my tires on that rare occasion...i wonder if the difference in power will make up for that or maybe the rear end in it was already bad, or possibly what i always fall back on, that car was a piece of crap
