Default best tire size for 17x9 rims?

Im picking up a set of 17" cobras, I havent measured them yet but Im pretty sure they are 9" wide. I have found that 2 sizes of tires fit the 9" wide rims. Im looking at Sumitomo (Im working with limited funds) The sizes are: 275/40/17s and 255/40/17s. From what I know the 275's are wider. My question is which are a better fit?

thanks.

The 275s will fit better.

275s are what are on my Cobra and they do add weight and make the tire have a wider look which depends rather or not you like it. 255s are a better/cleaner fit. I wish my Cobra rims would have came with 255s and not the 275s but I bought them as a package deal and saved a ton, so I'm not complaining.

Here is a tire calc to ref your sizes.
For an OE 17" the size is 245/45/17

Personally I wouldnt put anything smaller than a 265 on a 9" rim.

Why not put the 255/40/17s up front and the 275/40/17s on the back -

That's the setup I'm rockin with my 17x9 Cobras. The 275s out back make the 255s look too small, so I'd say 275s all the way around.

275/40/17 is a good fit. Why not stop at the local tire store, tell them you have an interest and roll two out to the car........ tell them you'll get back with them when you have the cash. AM does have a tire guide on their site. I know the 275 fits the 04 like a glove.
