Default 2800 stall tc too much?

I have a 2800 stall torque converter with the stock 3.27 gears. Every where I read online then and now said 2800 stall was fine/recommended for a 99+ auto.

But a oldschool v8 guy I work with swears up and down the 2800 stall I have is too much for my car, especially it being a V6. He insists this b/c I still have stock gearing, its a V6 and I DD it more than race it. He also said with my car being a DD, Im slowly tearing it up and doing more damage to it because the TC is rarely seeing the RPMs its ment to lock and run at. Basically unless Im racing it every weekend I need a lower stall b/c Im only hurting the car and tranny when just driving. Is he correct???

So also keep in mind this is my DD, not strictly a racer. Is 2800 stall really too much. Am I hurting anything when Im driving and not racing it? Should I have put a lower stall TC in?

He says its not benefiting me unless Im using/racing it. Otherwise its not doing me anything good in the streets driving. As you can tell, hes basically scaring me here lol.

And it scares me because this guy has been buiding/racing for years and usually knows what he's talking about. And the dude is making me feel like I possibly made a big mistake.

Run a good transcooler, get a temp gauge and do a J-Mod and you will be fine.
If you do a lot of stop and go driving then putting a small pusher E-Fan on the trans cooler is also a good idea.

Heat is what your working against.

btw, you need to match your stall to your car, how tight or loose it is and the correct lock RPM. Its not really a good idea to just throw one in that sounds good.

Talk to the company that made your TC and see what they say.

Can anyone give me the specs on the stock converter. What stall is it? I looked everywhere to no avail. I thought stock was 1500 or 1800, but I could be wrong. He also told me as a street car this is what I should of stuck with.

No one answer is correct.

Contact TCI and find out what they recommend for your car. If you get the wrong stall speed it will affect drivability. A nearly stock car will not really benefit from a higher stall speed because the stock converter is already close to optimum for the car's power curve.
