Default Need help identifying a Mustang.

Hi all! I've come across a Mustang with a package that I'm not familiar with. It's a 2004 V6 labeled as a sport edition. The car is black with two tone black and grey leather Pony interior, a different hood than I've seen on any other Mustang, Pony wheels and the traction control option. Has anyone ever run across another one of these? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stephen

oh and welcome to the forum

I don't think there was such thing as a "Pony Package" in 2004.

That's the thing is I'm not sure if it's aftermarket or not. I grabbed a couple of pics to help with the ID, I'm attaching them below. I don;t think it's aftermarket though, given the story. The original owner bought the car new in '04. He drove it for 2.5 years, putting 38K miles on it. In early '07 a car ran a red light and clipped the front end (you'll see the damage to the hood in the picture) It bent the radiator supports and the frame on the very nose section. Insurance totaled the car out and it wound up in the hands of the guy I bought it from. he bought it in '07 with the intent to fix it up. Flash forward to a month ago when word reached me that the car was for sale. The owner was tired of it sitting in his garage taking up space and just wanted rid of it. a 45 minute drive and $500 later I'm the proud owner. That's right, $500. I figured if the frame damage was sever I could make my money on the engine and transmission. Good news is that It's now sitting in my garage with a brand new front end and all the body panels, and to date I'm only out 1100 ($600 for the frame work and a complete front end). Well, all the body panels except the hood, which is different than anything else I'm finding.

Sorry there not the greatest quality, all I had on me was my phone.

OK, finally got images to load. Apparently MF doesn't like Flickr uploading. Here are pics of the hood, interior, and decal which is located behind the rear, passenger and driver side windows.

Yea that's gotta be a sticker he put on there from autozone. Kinda lame if you ask me. As far as I know, I don't remember there ever being a "sport edition" back in '04 for V6 mustangs or any other year for that matter. Ford just recently (05 and up) started giving the v6 decent packages. 05 and up is the "pony package".

What you've got there is a mustang with aftermarket parts and a couple of stickers. Don't know if the seats are factory or not though...

I'm starting to think this is a dealer option. I've been doing a little more research in my spare time today and it looks like there are some inconsistencies in the data plate and the actual car. The data plate lists the interior as (9W) Rhodes Cloth in Midnight Black instead of two tone leather, although the leather looks like a factory job. It also lists the exterior trim package as blank, so there shouldn't be any stripes, but it has the stripe over the top which you can see in the pic of the hood, as well as side stripes which feature the word Mustang written in the '67 version of the Mustang script. Both decals have a fade to them that matches the fade in the "Sport Edition" decal from the pics. Whoever put them on, the decals/stripes are a matched set. Here's the weird part though, the car has traction control, which should be listed as a "3" on the data plate, however my data plate has a "4". There's no listed code for a 4, only 2, 3 and 5. A dealer option would answer for the interior and the decals (I can't imagine anyone putting that much into a 6 cylinder on their own) but I'm now confused by the 4 code in the "BRK" category. I may have to call my local Ford dealer for a little clarification.

the sticker might be custom made. the seats look nice but i think they may have been re-upholstered or swapped from a different car. the stripe is probably custom or the dealer put it on at the dealership, is it a decal? looks like it would be a nice mustang though.
